Landsec, owner of one of the UK’s leading retail destination portfolios, has released its annual social and economic impact report (Report, Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth) revealing how Gunwharf Quays is helping to drive local growth, contributed £145,499,975 to the local economy and supported 2,757 jobs in 2025.

In 2025, Gunwharf Quays supported 2,757 jobs across Landsec, its retail partners and businesses operating at the destination. It also helped 168 people move closer to employment through initiatives such as employability partnerships, which provide valuable hands-on industry experience, and work placements.

The research also found that Gunwharf Quays delivered £580,943.40 in social value in 2025 through investment in local communities and employment initiatives, including bursaries, community grants, volunteering and partnerships. These initiatives help create lasting value beyond economic contribution by supporting community wellbeing, strengthening local partnerships and fostering a sense of pride in the local community.

Alongside its economic and social contribution, Gunwharf Quays continues to invest in a more sustainable future. In 2025, the destination reduced its energy intensity by 30%, reflecting Landsec’s commitment to creating places that deliver lasting value for local communities and the environment. Gunwharf Quays’ rooftop solar PV scheme, completed in early 2025, features 1,287 panels and is expected to generate 550,000 kWh annually – enough to power 135 UK households, charge 225 electric cars, and save 115 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

Yvonne Clay, Centre Director at Gunwharf Quays, said:

“Retail destinations are part of the fabric of the communities they serve. They help local businesses grow, create employment opportunities and provide places where people can come together, connect and spend time”.

“The findings published today demonstrate the important contribution Gunwharf Quays continues to make to Portsmouth. By investing in the destination, supporting employment, working with community partners and operating more sustainably, we’re helping businesses and communities thrive. In turn, that attracts further investment, supports long-term growth and creates lasting value for the local area.”

Gunwharf Quays continues to strengthen its position as the UK’s leading waterfront outlet destination, with iconic brands choosing to open their first UK outlet stores at the centre, such as HOKA, Piglet in Bed and Oliver Bonas. Alongside the continued strengthening of its retailer line-up, Gunwharf Quays has recently announced plans to transform the harbour-facing Waterfront as part of the wider £45m investment project. The elevated space will enhance the experience for locals and tourists alike, whilst creating new job opportunities. Beyond retail, Gunwharf Quays remains committed to making a positive impact through partnerships with organisations including Pompey in the Community, and initiatives such as ‘Made in Portsmouth,’ championing local talent, inclusivity and opportunities for the wider community.
