The business led consortium representing the Central South UK has returned from MIPIM in Cannes, having successfully raised the profile of our region on the global stage.

It was the second year that the private sector led group has taken part in the world’s leading and most influential property event and highlights this year included:

  • Taking part in the Team UK reception
  • Raising the profile for the region
  • Engaging in important discussions with potential investors

More than 23,000 people were anticipated to attend Cannes for MIPIM 2023, with delegates from more than 90 nations and 2,400 exhibiting businesses.

Investors comprise a quarter of attendees and 76 of the world’s top 100 investment managers, advising on €4 trillion of assets, took part.

Business South co-ordinated the visit to MIPIM and provided the impetus to create this year’s Team UK event.

Business South Group CEO, Leigh-Sara Timberlake explained:” “We attended MIPIM for the first time in 2022 and we were blown away by the experience.

“The Central South is represented by a business-led consortium and together we are promoting the opportunities to invest in the Central South.

“Having seen how well collaboration works for us as a model, we thought there was an opportunity for us to reach out to other regions and cities across the UK.

“We wanted to see if they would be interested in jointly hosting a reception so we can show the opportunities that exist across the UK.

“And the response from our UK partners has been overwhelming,” she said.

Lord Dominic Johnson of Lainston CBE (pictured), Minister for Investment in the Department for Business and Trade visited the Central South stand and met with the private sector led partners.

He said it was important that regions like the Central South UK was represented at MIPIM and the fact he was in Cannes representing the UK Government shows the importance the event holds.

Lord Johnson joined a discussion about the Solent Freeport and stressed the major opportunity it holds for the region.
